POSITION:  Consultant (Inclusive Services and Practices)
JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Primary Purpose:

  • Responsible for supporting and implementing state-wide and inclusive support initiatives
  • Support the activities and purpose of IDEA-B through training, technical assistance, and consultation to local education agencies (LEAs) regarding inclusive services and practices for students with disabilities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certifications:

  • Texas State Teaching Certification in special education; supervisory experience preferred
  • Master’s Degree in an educational related field

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Expertise in curriculum and instruction for students with disabilities
  • Effective interpersonal, leadership, collaborative and communication skills
  • Effective training skills in differentiation strategies and curriculum
  • Knowledge of special education service delivery options including research and effectiveness of inclusion/co-teach model
  • Knowledge of how to develop standards based IEPs
  • Ability to work one-on-one with administrators, supervisors, and teachers of various experience
  • Leadership and presentation skills, including the ability to engage participants and address large audiences
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Responsibilities and Duties Common to all Region 10 ESC Employees:

  • Ability to work on and enhance a team
  • Utilize time wisely for effective management of position responsibilities and to ensure timelines are met
  • Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings Maintain a positive, customer friendly, and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal)
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to center-wide strategic planning goals
  • Display proficient levels of technology applications and remain current in the area of digital integration
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Region 10 Leadership
  • Prepare and organize resources, train, and collaborate with Region 10 personnel Exhibit initiative in identifying problems and suggesting solutions in a positive manner
  • Exhibit good judgement and decision making
  • Keep supervisor informed of program and district needs
  • Maintain up-to-date entries in Region 10 databases and accurate records for
  • tracking and invoicing
  • Adhere to Center procedures, guidelines, and policies

 Specific Responsibilities and Duties for the Inclusive Services and Practices Consultant

  • Support the Inclusive Services and Practices Network and any other state networks as assigned, assisting with the development and implementation of the network plan and initiatives
  • Provide leadership and assistance to LEA’s in the provision of training and technical assistance concerning instruction and curriculum, standards based IEPs, differentiated instruction, inclusion, co-
  • teaching, and state assessments for students with disabilities
  • Participate in efforts to increase student performance in Region 10 LEAs
  • Assist in budget development and management
  • Maintain records of activities to provide documentation for accountability purposes
  • Collaborate with LEA’s that participate in co-teaching classrooms to increase implementation with fidelity
  • Collaborate with consultants in other areas of specialty to provide information and training on special education topics for general education teachers Identify and analyze the need for development and provision of professional development for special education and, as appropriate, general education staff Maintain working relationship with LEA/SSA special education administrative staff by appointment, telephone, email, and directors’ meetings
  • Provide information and collaborate with others to update and maintain website Participate in team and center-wide activities
  • Observe all center policies and procedures and demonstrate flexibility to manage multiple responsibilities and varied tasks with minimal supervision
  • Perform other duties and functions as required 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  
  • Five or more years of special education teaching or related experience
  • Background in providing staff development at the local, state, and/or national level

 

Accountability:

  • The Consultant shall be directly accountable to the Special Populations Program Coordinator
