POSITION:  Consultant (Bilingual - Spanish) SEIC
JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Primary Purpose:

  • Responsible for implementing the SEIC project and providing activities based on analysis of data
  • Support the activities and purposes of the SEIC
  • Support the activities and purpose of IDEA Part B and IDEA Part C
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certifications:

  • Texas Teaching Certification, special education and/or bilingual preferred
  • Master's Degree in Special Education or a related field required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Able to provide appropriate resources and accurate information regarding special education issues
  • Able to communicate with stakeholders via phone, email, or live chat
  • Able to assist with maintenance of social media venues
  • Able to plan and present information in front of large groups
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education regulations-
  • Understanding of effective conflict resolution strategies and problem-solving skills to address stakeholder concerns
  • Fluent in English and Spanish in all four domains (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing)

  • Knowledge of state bilingual and ESL programs as relates to special education services
  • Able to confer with ESC designee as appropriate to address the needs of stakeholders
  • Able to gather, analyze and communicate data offering an array of options to address stakeholders' concerns providing post contact follow up as appropriate
  • Able to prepare appropriate documents for departmental reports as requested by supervisor
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and independently to meet deadlines
  • Skill in operating MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drives)
  • Ability to develop innovative and engaging presentations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Responsibilities and Duties Common to all Region 10 ESC Employees:

  • Ability to work on and enhance a team
  • Utilize time wisely for effective management of position responsibilities and to ensure timelines are met
  • Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings
  • Maintain a positive, customer friendly, and professional tone in all communication (i.e., email, written, and verbal)
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to center-wide strategic planning goals
  • Display proficient levels of technology applications and remain current in the area of digital integration
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Region 10 Leadership
  • Prepare and organize resources, train, and collaborate with Region 10 personnel
  • Exhibit initiative in identifying problems and suggesting solutions in a positive manner
  • Exhibit good judgement and decision making
  • Keep supervisor informed of program and district needs
  • Maintain up-to-date entries in Region 10 databases and accurate records for tracking and invoicing
  • Adhere to Center procedures, guidelines, and policies 

Specific Responsibilities and Duties for the Bilingual SEIC Consultant:

  • Provide accurate and timely information to questions about special education (email, phone, chat)
  • Accurately enter data into Jira system
  • Present and represent SPEDTex at conferences and parent events
  • Maintain social media platforms
  • Participate in team project long-term planning and project development/implementation
  • Provide input to budget planning
  • Participate in collaborative meetings (TEA, ESCs, advisory council)
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills
  • Exhibit initiative in meeting needs and developing new ideas
  • Identify problems and suggest solutions in a positive manner
  • Exhibit good judgement in interactions with all stakeholders
  • Accurately maintain JIRA data system
  • Accurately and timely respond to stakeholder requests for information and resources
  • Assist with implementation of statewide initiatives and/or directives
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of special education regulations and evidence-based practices
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  
  • Five or more years classroom and related experience preferred
  • Administrative experience preferred
  • Background in data analysis preferred
  • Central office experience preferred
