POSITION:  Teaching and Learning Consultant (HQIM) - 2 positions
JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Primary Purpose:

  • To support the implementation of High Quality Instructional Materials in alignment to research-based instructional strategies for the grant period
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Texas Teaching certification required

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience serving low-income, high-need students, including children living in poverty, emergent bilinguals, and children with disabilities
  • Proven ability to deliver professional development and instructional coaching in the Science of Teaching Reading for adult learners preferred
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
  • A demonstrated capacity for problem-solving, self-reflection, giving/receiving feedback, and continuous improvement
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Responsibilities and Duties Common to all Region 10 ESC Employees:

  • Ability to work on and enhance a team
  • Utilize time wisely for effective management of position responsibilities and to ensure timelines are met      
  • Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings
  • Maintain a positive, customer friendly, and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal)
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to center-wide strategic planning goals
  • Display proficient levels of technology applications and remain current in the area of digital integration
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Region 10 Leadership
  • Prepare and organize resources, train, and collaborate with Region 10 personnel
  • Exhibit initiative in identifying problems and suggesting solutions in a positive manner
  • Exhibit good judgment and decision making
  • Keep supervisor informed of program and district needs
  • Maintain up-to-date entries in Region 10 databases and accurate records for tracking and invoicing
  • Adhere to Center procedures, guidelines, and policies

 Specific Responsibilities and Duties for the HQIM Consultant - Teaching and Learning

  • Provide effective, research-based instructional support in the area of literacy for campuses
  • Provide direct coaching to teachers on lesson internalization and unit assessment
  • Attend training and meetings required by TEA to support the implementation of high quality instructional materials
  • Attend all Vendor Product Academies and become certified
  • Communicate with districts, campuses, charter schools, TEA, and ESCs to provide effective, research-based technical assistance to improve student performance
  • Record accurate documentation of all technical assistance provided to districts as outlined in the ESC Literacy Coach grant
  • Design and deliver professional development based on HQIM vendor materials and lessons
  • Follow all guidelines and timelines outlined in the ESC Literacy Coach grant
  • Travel as part of job responsibilities

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  
  • 5 years classroom teaching experience required
  • Completed or currently completing credentials for HB3 Reading Academies or knowledge of Science of Teaching Reading  (SOTR) preferred
  • Complete Research Based Instructional Strategies RBIS (RLA) preferred

Accountability:

  • The HQIM Literacy Instructional Coach shall report directly to the HQIM Program Coordinator.
