POSITION:  Head Start/EHS Education Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Primary Purpose:

  • Collaborate with Head Start District Partners to deliver comprehensive high-quality services that support Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), promote healthy child development, and school readiness.

 

  • Support implementation of major legislative acts including the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), School Readiness Initiatives, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF), Pre-K Guidelines, Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PFCE) Framework, and Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), as needed.

 

  • Provide technical assistance, conduct observations and consultations to support and guide the implementation of developmentally appropriate instruction and effective teaching practices using coordinated coaching strategies  that lead to positive outcomes and school readiness for children.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certifications:

  • Certified Teacher or Equivalent
  • Baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or a Baccalaureate or advanced degree and equivalent coursework in Early Childhood Education

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Responsibilities and Duties Common to all Region 10 ESC Employees:

  • Implement organization and time management strategies effectively
  • Maintain punctuality
  • Maintain a positive, customer friendly, and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal)
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to center-wide strategic planning goals
  • Maintain current application of technology
  • Prepare and organize resources, co-train, and collaborate with Region 10 personnel
  • Exhibit initiative in identifying problems and suggesting solutions in a positive manner
  • Exhibit good judgment and decision making
  • Keep supervisor informed of program and district needs
  • Maintain up-to-date entries in Region 10 databases and accurate records for tracking and invoicing
  • Adhere to Center procedures, guidelines, and policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Region 10 Leadership

 Specific Responsibilities and Duties for the Education Specialist

  • Assist Consultants in providing support to Head Start/Early Head Start teaching teams and LEA Administrators to ensure the implementation of the Head Start Program Performance Standards and program requirements, including updating information, ongoing training and follow up     
  • Maintain a regular schedule of visits to assigned teachers/campuses as assigned by the Education Coordinator.    
  • Providing technical assistance and support on a regular basis through on-site visits, written and telephone communication, and email for teaching teams, LEA Administrators and professional staff
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge and ability to assist administrators and teachers serving students with diverse needs
  • Assist with creating and providing professional learning opportunities using a     variety of delivery methods
  • Collaborate with other Head Start/EHS services staff to assist and/or design professional learning experiences  using the R10 Professional Learning Model
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of program content, evidence-based practices, and current research in Early Childhood Education
  • Attend and participate in staff professional development training sessions and meetings
  • Ongoing monitoring for self assessment, End of Month Reports,  accountability and data entry using Child Plus

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  
  • Instructional coaching experience preferred
  • CLASS Reliability classroom assessment tool
  • Child Plus data management software
  • Background in providing superior staff development at the local, state, and/or national level
  • Three or more years of classroom teaching or related experience in Early Childhood, Child Development, and Head Start
