POSITION:  Consultant (Safety & Security)
JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Primary Purpose:

  • Support Safety & Security Program Coordinator
  • Provide guidance & assistance to LEAs in completing mandated reports & surveys
  • Assist in scheduling Safety & Security Region 10 events (e.g., Roundtables, etc.)
  • Provide research and recommendations for improvements based on new trends affecting schools
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Texas Teacher Certification or other equivalent law enforcement certification required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of the general safety and security requirements for LEAs
  • Knowledge of the professional development needs of campus and central office administrators
  • Knowledge of PEIMS as it relates to district implementation at the administrative level
  • Ability to learn, work with, and communicate legislative requirements to LEAs
  • Ability to work with school safety centers and other agencies to help districts apply safety and security practices at the district and building level
  • Familiarity with Governmental procurement procedures
  • Ability to manage a budget, contract personnel, and coordinate various functions of the Supervision and Leadership Development area
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to evaluate and support personnel while encouraging continued personal and professional growth
  • Ability to work in a team setting where collaboration is key
  • Working knowledge of JJAEP/DAEP protocols and procedures

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Responsibilities and Duties Common to all Region 10 ESC Employees:

  • Ability to work on and enhance a team
  • Utilize time wisely for effective management of position responsibilities and to ensure timelines are met
  • Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings
  • Maintain a positive, customer friendly, and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal)
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to center-wide strategic planning goals
  • Display proficient levels of technology applications and remain current in the area of digital integration
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Region 10 Leadership
  • Prepare and organize resources, train, and collaborate with Region 10 personnel
  • Exhibit initiative in identifying problems and suggesting solutions in a positive manner
  • Exhibit good judgement and decision making
  • Keep supervisor informed of program and district needs
  • Maintain up-to-date entries in Region 10 databases and accurate records for tracking and invoicing
  • Adhere to Center procedures, guidelines, and policies

Specific Responsibilities and Duties for the Safety and Security Consultant

  • Supporting LEA implementation of best practices and legislative requirements
  • Coordinate the planning and delivery of all LEA audit services
  • Analyze and identify potential areas of service improvement and apply cost-benefit analysis methods to proposed improvements.
  • Collaborate with other team members in the revision and presentation of the Supervision and Leadership Development Package
  • Serve as the key contact for LEAs and TEA in all areas of safety and security
  • Present information both internally and externally as it relates to legislative rules, best practices, and policies
  • Coordination of School Safety Conferences, roundtables, and other safety and security programming
  • Monitor, assess, and adjust professional development offerings hosted by Region 10 ESC
  • Analyze and assist in the planning of internal safety and security for Region 10
  • Maintain and coordinate the JJAEP Governance Committee, including invoicing and MOU
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, or Director of Supervision and Leadership Development service area
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  
  • At least three years in a role of school safety and security; or an equivalent role
  • District-level experience in implementing/training school safety & security practices
  • Presentation skills of legislative information and school safety protocols

Accountability:

  • The Safety and Security Consultant shall be directly accountable to the Safety and Security Program Coordinator or his/her designee.
