POSITION:  Data Support Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Primary Purpose:

The Data Support Specialist will actively manage data to support student success in Career, College, and Military Readiness for Region 10’s CCMR Insights and other related software.  They will support school administrative and technical staff through the on-boarding and on-going data management processes, including data feeds from student information systems, college readiness assessment vendors, and other data sources. They will also act on the school’s behalf to gather and load data from third parties such as College Board and ACT. They will monitor ongoing data quality and work with school staff, internal software developers, software vendors and other stakeholders to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of student information systems such as Ascender or Skyward
  • Knowledge of state-mandated data collections such as PEIMS or ECDS
  • Knowledge of Ed-Fi data standards
  • Knowledge of data transfer formats including CSV, XML, and JSON
  • Knowledge of help ticketing systems such as Jira
  • Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group; technical subject matter experts, ESC service owners, and school district representatives
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking ability
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Strong knowledge of G Suite and Microsoft Office productivity applications including Excel and Powerpoint
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Responsibilities and Duties Common to all Region 10 ESC Employees 

  • Ability to work on and enhance a team
  • Utilize time wisely for effective management of position responsibilities and to ensure timelines are met
  • Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings
  • Maintain a positive, customer friendly, and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal)
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to center-wide strategic planning goals
  • Display proficient levels of technology applications and remain current in the area of digital integration
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Region 10 Leadership
  • Prepare and organize resources, train, and collaborate with Region 10 personnel
  • Exhibit initiative in identifying problems and suggesting solutions in a positive manner
  • Exhibit good judgment and decision making
  • Keep supervisor informed of program and district needs
  • Maintain up-to-date entries in Region 10 databases and accurate records for tracking and invoicing
  • Adhere to Center procedures, guidelines, and policies 

Specific Responsibilities and Duties for the Data Support Specialist

  • Support school administrative and technical staff through the on-boarding and on-going data management processes for CCMR Insights and related school data products, including set up and monitoring of data feeds from student information systems, college readiness assessment vendors, and other data sources
  • Provide Level 1 phone and ticket-based support to users of the CCMR Insights software and other Ed-Fi based tools
  • Escalate issues to school staff, internal software team, or external vendors as necessary, and follow through to resolution
  • Support Ed-Fi data mapping and troubleshooting in the student information system or other systems as appropriate
  • Access portals on behalf of school staff for assessment data (such as SAT, ACT, Accuplacer,etc) or other datasets
  • Upload assessment data to the Operational Data Store on a scheduled timeframe using internally- and Ed-Fi developed software tools
  • Resolve identity matching and other data quality issues with source data. Escalate to school support staff or software vendors as required
  • Build relationships with school administrative and technical staff to assist in collecting and sharing data and resolving issues
  • Communicate on a regular basis about the data uploaded to the site and any data quality issues
  • Appropriately handle confidential and FERPA-protected information at all times
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  
  • Two to four years of related work experience preferred
  • Experience with student information systems such as Ascender or Skyward preferred
  • Experience with state-mandated data collection such as PEIMS or ECDS preferred
  • Experience with Ed-Fi data standards preferred
  • Experience with TIMS, Jira or other ticketing system preferred
